Hi-Tec Outlander - Finally, a wide hiker that is actually WIDE! I have tried many other hikers labeled as wide, but they never really had a roomy toe box. These do! I gave them 4 out of 5 stars for comfort because I need more arch support and cushioning. The addition of a sole ultra footbed has helped in this regard. This is a good lightweight day hiker, but it would need a stiffer sole and more cushioning for longer hikes or backpacking.
Great Day Hiker - I've rated it four stars as it's NOT a backpacking or wilderness trekking boot for rough, rugged wilderness terrain or climbing that demands hardness and stiffness for support plus durability on sharp rocks. They're also not rated as waterproof. That said, it IS a great, lighter weight boot for day hiking on trails with perhaps some modest climbing -- for which its foot/ankle support and comfort are excellent. These required zero break-in, a first for me, and they breathe quite well. All at a superb price compared to other boots I've found in its class and I'm well pleased!
Hi-Tec Altitude IV - Since I always appreciate Customer Reviews, here is mine: The boot is amazingly comfortable; it looks great in the brown; like a combination between leather and softer suede, really nice. Rugged yet not sloppy. I ordered a 1/2 size larger so I could easily wear thick warm socks and put in orthodics or other supports and it is perfect. Feels soft yet very supportive. Waterproof and tall enough to support my ankles too. Other writers were correct... no break-in needed. I wanted brown, but I would think the black is also great looking, if that is what you want. I recommend this boot 100%.
