James Johnston partnered with William H. Murphy in 1882 when Johnston’s former partner, Dudley, died, forming the current company, Johnston and Murphy. The original company was founded in 1850 by William S. Dudley in Newark, New Jersey. Dudley was an immigrant English shoemaker. Johnston and Murphy stood for quality and today, 125 years later their name is still synonomous with excellence.

Johnston & Murphy Samford Moc Toe - I love Johnston & Murphy shoes - these are my 3rd pair. I have narrow feet, and their B width suits me very well. these Samfords - the leather is soft, but not delicate or fragile by any means. It does not scuff easily. The sheepskin lining is comfortable; I could wish for more padding/resiliency under my heel, though, for long hours of standing. The shoe seems on the longish side - not necessarily a half-size longer, but just longish - as if I might want the sole to flex a hair farther back on my foot. It doesn't seem a problem, though. Stylistically, it's nothing cutting edge, but it is well-executed for what it is. Very satisfied.
Johnston & Murphy Emery Kiltie Tassel Wonderful for travel - Looks smart and is easy to take on and off as you go through security. I like these shoes for the comfort and fashion factor. Definite recommend.
Johnston & Murphy Shuler Bike - Comfort and Fit - These shoes are simply the best fitting and most comfortable laced shoe I have purchased. All this comfort plus the styling is also there. I wear them to work, out for dinner, to church.

What width & size are you?
The general rule is that standard Men's width is D. For Women, the standard width is B. If most of the shoes you have purchased in the past have a comfortable width then go with the default.
If the shoes you are wearing feel overly wide, you should consider selecting a narrower width size. Shop For Narrow Shoes.

If your feet seem "between" sizes and you cannot decide which size to select, we suggest you choose the larger size. You can make adjustments for a better fit with socks, insoles, or a different lacing pattern.
Try shoes on later in the day when your feet are at their largest.
Sizing Tips
The heel should not slip, the midfoot of the shoe under your arch and over the top of your foot should be snug but not tight; and you should have enough room in the toe area to wiggle your toes.
Women's feet often become a half-size (or more) larger after pregnancy.
Feet typically get bigger with age. People are more than twice as likely to buy a shoe that is too small than too big.
Boots are often worn with bulky socks, while sandals are hopefully not. Sizing may be affected with how much extra padding you have.
Heat makes your feet swell and cold may shrink them. Think about temperature when choosing sizes.
Fully utilize a the return policy by ordering multiple sizes, then keep what fits best and return the rest.
