Simple, your stereotypical, anti-stereotype brand offering good shoes and a big dose of reality. About a gazillion pairs later... give or take a few... we've managed to learn a few things. With all the over-built, over-hyped products out there, its pretty hard to find comfortable shoes that you can live with. Well, actually a lot of things. And none more important than this: HOW we make our shoes is just as important as WHY we make them. That means finding more sustainable ways of doing business so we can make a gazillion more. The nice little shoe company getting in touch with its inner hippie. Which pretty much is where we are today... at the crossroads of here and now, aware of our responsibility to the planet while trying to pay the bills.

Simple is more than a shoe; it's a way of life. At Simple, everything we do relates back to the core values of living a simple lifestyle. These values include: integrity, truth, sentiment and comfort.
Simple is the genius of Eric Meyer. While attending UCSB in the late 80’s and early 90’s, Eric created the first Simple sneaker simply called “The Original Sneaker”.

As we remember it looking back, Eric’s story is fascinating. He was inspired by the lack of casual lifestyle footwear available. Sneakers, primarily were athletic and had swooshes, pumps, gels etc. Eric liked to spend time hanging out, like working on his VW’s (one of his favorite things to do), doing homework or reading poetry at the local java shack. You don’t need a running shoe for that. So Eric designed a sneaker that he would wear. The original sneaker was a suede upper, classic styling with a white toe cap (by the way Simple is re-launching the Original in July ’04, look for it here at Zappos).

Here’s where his story really gets cool. He sold his 2 Kharmen Ghia’s VW’s, his pride and joy, and raised enough cash to have his first proto type samples created (this is very expensive by the way). He took his samples to a trade show to see if he could sell them to shoe stores. At the show he hooked up with some cool people that worked for Deckers Outdoor Corporation, which also owns Teva Sport Sandals and Ugg Australia). The people at Deckers understood his vision, soon the first Simple shoe line was created by Eric and Deckers.

Eric also created very clever ads and t-shirts which inspired an almost “cult like” fan club. One of his cool sayings was “The Path To Knowledge Is Kind Of Tough, You’re Going Need Good Shoes”.

The second sneaker Eric created is called the “Old School Sneaker”, fondly referred to as the “O.S”. This was a to be a companion shoe for the Original, and has slightly cleaner lines, no rubber toe cap and a red “kickball” outsole (which has become an icon for Simple).

What happened next was amazing. There is no way that all the marketing could produce the phenomenon that swept through the young skate market. The edgy, trend setting skate boarders adopted the Old School on their own accord. This propelled the Old School to stardom overnight. This was to become the first of two very big events in the life of Simple.

The Old School Sneaker has become the soul of Simple. All Simple sneakers to follow have been renditions or inspired by this sneaker. The Old School has survived 10 years now and has to be considered a true classic.

As skaters moved onto other brands, the Old School was then adopted by the Surf culture along with another new style called “Barney” which also gets a re-launch in Fall “04.

The second big thing was the Clog. In 1994 Eric designed the “Original Clog”. This clog swept the country in popularity and was one of the most requested shoes in the country. This was so big, some say Simple made clogs a “cool thing” to wear again like it was in the ’70’s.

Simple has continued to create cool, casual lifestyle footwear that does not cost too much. We like to think of ourselves as “A cool little shoe company”. If you are cool or want to be cool, Simple is the shoe for you.

Great shoe! I bought these last year and just bought a replacement pair because I wore them so much and love them. Bought 2 colors this time! Good for work or casual with slacks; super comfortable and not a 'click, clicky' mule. Perfect for air travel because they're easy on and off and can wear with business slacks. Runs 1/2 sz small for me. I ordered 1/2 sz larger and they're perfect.

Cute and comfortable - As cute as they are, I wasn't so sure about how comfy these would be, so I was pleasantly surprised to find them to be great - I am on my feet all day at work and my feet were in good shape with these. Didn't even have to break them in!

Comfortable and stylish, these are the shoe for me. I love the classic that I can wear to work, out to dinner, or even to the park and not feel out of place. Thanks, love it!

Shopping for quality footwear has never been so simple. That is because with the Simple footwear line, whether you are a man or a woman, they have something great for you to wear on your feet. The philosophy behind Simple footwear is just that, "Life should be simple" as with buying a pair of shoes. Great designs for boots, sneakers, clogs, casual shoes and more await you. There are many great designs to choose from, and all Simple footwear is made from material of the highest quality. Next time you go shopping, make things a little easier on yourself and go with Simple.

    Width Sizing / Shoe Sizing

    Women's Shoe Widths
    4A 2A B D 2E 4E
    X-Narrow Narrow Standard Wide X-Wide XX-Wide
    Men's Shoe Widths
    2A B D 2E 4E 6E
    X-Narrow Narrow Standard Wide X-Wide XX-Wide

What width & size are you?

  • The general rule is that standard Men's width is D. For Women, the standard width is B. If most of the shoes you have purchased in the past have a comfortable width then go with the default.
  • If the shoes you are wearing feel overly wide, you should consider selecting a narrower width size. Shop For Narrow Shoes.
  • If the shoes you wear tend to feel narrow, then you should consider selecting a wider width size. Shop For Wide Shoes
  • If your feet seem "between" sizes and you cannot decide which size to select, we suggest you choose the larger size. You can make adjustments for a better fit with socks, insoles, or a different lacing pattern.
  • Try shoes on later in the day when your feet are at their largest.

    Sizing Tips

  • The heel should not slip, the midfoot of the shoe under your arch and over the top of your foot should be snug but not tight; and you should have enough room in the toe area to wiggle your toes.
  • Women's feet often become a half-size (or more) larger after pregnancy.
  • Feet typically get bigger with age. People are more than twice as likely to buy a shoe that is too small than too big.
  • Boots are often worn with bulky socks, while sandals are hopefully not. Sizing may be affected with how much extra padding you have.
  • Heat makes your feet swell and cold may shrink them. Think about temperature when choosing sizes.
  • Fully utilize a the return policy by ordering multiple sizes, then keep what fits best and return the rest.
